My Little Art Museum is a class that introduces students to the world of Fine Art and Visual Art.
Each Art Project is influenced by a Famous or Great Master Artist or an Art Movement in Art History. We use the VTS (Visual Thinking Strategies) at first to increase participation and student engagement in the meanings and purpose of the Work of Art. We support our students of all grade levels to take part in discussions about the artwork that they are experiencing, encouraging them to openly communicate with their peers so they may become comfortable in their opinions, while also understanding that other students or people might think differently in French or English.
Then we dive into the artists’ backgrounds to understand his vision and inspiration but also his style and genre, subject matter, and special techniques. This knowledge as well as the students individual interests are used to influence a drawing and completed artwork. I will help the students with their individual sketches and develop an understandable composition, so students are not just copying the master, but putting their own creative spin on .
Teaching perspective, color use, abstraction, and value. Each student’s technical skill and artistic understanding will develop through their time in this class month after month.
Materials we use in the art studio: Color pencils, watercolors, oil pastels, dry pastels, charcoal, acrylic painting, Chinese and Sumi-E Japanese Ink, sharpie markers, Sanguine Conte, Ink for Calligraphy, Gold for Enluminure. Learning the historical background and context as well as connections with other disciplines help them gain global and multicultural perspective of Arts and Humanities.
